Scott! This is hysterical. I especially appreciate the post b/c I just sent the article to a friend who is applying for a job at the St. Reg. Ever since I read this issue of Atlanta Magazine, I couldn't stop thinking about the article and Atlanta's new playboy (allegedly). I now know why. Thanks for calling out Mr. Rohr (hear me roar, my ass) and the shoddy journalist.

Haivng a general shareholder interest in the health of a CEO is not the same thing as demanding to know details of "each and every decision by the president, CEO , or Board of a company." It's hyperbole to suggest otherwise. In this instance, it appears that Jobs has not given any more information to his Board than he has the public. I agree that the details of a CEO's health are a matter best left to the Board. However, you cannot ignore the duty that the Board (fiduciary and otherwise) to the shareholders in general. I submit that it should be the Board that releases information that is pertinent after consultation with the CEO. It's silly to think that once an investor puts money into a company, that he/she forfeits any ongoing interest in information vital to the company's well-being, which includes the ability of a healthy CEO to do his/her job. This does not open up medical files to general inspection, and even the press shouldn't have access to those files. The Board, however, should.

I don't get your reference to personal responsibility unless you're referring to the Mystery Investor you imagine wants to micromanage a company simply because said Investor owns stock.

I think your reference to the ADA and the paralyzed firefighter are misplaced. That is, obviously, a different circumstance. presidents are also different, and there are provisions in place to give powers to the Vice President when they cannot do their jobs.

CEOs are not comparable to fire-fighters or Presidents. If something is interfering with their ability to do their jobs, the Board of Directors may remove them. If they self-select out of their position, then that is their choice. They remain private citizens, even if they may qualify as public figures under some tort standards. However, as I stated before, if a shareholder puts money into a company based solely on its CEO, that is a market risk that the stockholder is taking, and he or she is entitled to no other information than they are with any other BOD or executive decision. If a share-holder believes that he or she is knowledgeable and/or informed of each and every decision by the president, CEO, or Board of a company, or informed of every variable that is analyized in a decision, then that is a truly naive belief, and I would submit that investor should not be playing the market on his or her own unless the money is theirs to lose. It's all about risk, but increased risk on the part of one person does not entitle him or her to increased information about another. For additional insight, I would refer everyone to President Barack Obama's inauguration address, specifically where he refers to personal responsibility. We could all use a healthier dose.

Yes, Mary Beth, thank you for your comment. I do live in Atlanta, which is why I took notice of the front page that was splashed on a national news program. It is also the reason I chose to express my opinion, which I am entitled to do. Since I hold the entire editorial decision-making for this blog, this is my forum.

If you will go back and read the post, I noted that there was a special inauguration section that some may have received on the outside of the paper. However, if you went on ajc.com on Wednesday and searched for the print edition, the page that was retrieved as the front page, the one with the large, "Atlanta Journal-Constitution" banner across the top, was the one with the "Hello, Bush" statement.

My comment was simply directed to a bad editorial decision to put something on the main front page that was not news at all. Apparently others have agreed. Doubly so, that is the front page that was broadcast to a substantial number of viewers of a national morning news program. I also believe that the residents of the "capital city of the south" demand a much better local news source. I am now thankful that we have access to the internet and other news sources that publish real news.

Um, I live in Atlanta and subscribe to that paper, and the Obamas were on the front page. The inauguration section was on top of every edition I saw for sale at stores too. I don't understand why people are throwing a fit about this.

Just look on ebay. The papers are for sale on there with the Obama page on top! They look like stacks of papers straight from the press.

Do you even live in Atlanta or know anything about the newspaper here?
